How a working ceiling fan can be made automatically on and off at an interval of ten minutes?

January 11th, 2011

Before gong to sleep at 10 P.M., manually switch on the ceiling fan and it must automatically OFF after ten minutes. Then again it must automatically ON after ten minutes. This process is to be continued till 6 A.M. until it is switched off manually. In order to make the above mentioned technology practical ,what equipment is required? What will be its approximate cost? In which address should I contact?

How do I connect my ceiling fan and light?

November 15th, 2010

My ceiling/lights fan unit has a green, white, black and blue wire. The blue and black are spliced together. Coming out of the ceiling is the black, white and copper ground wire. I want to make sure I’m connecting the wires correctly. This is the way I think it is done:

Green is connected to the copper ground wire.
White is connected to the white.
Spliced blue/black is connected to the black in the ceiling.

Does this sound correct?

How do I get ceiling fan/light to work on independent switches?

November 13th, 2010

I just moved into a new condo and all of the rooms have ceiling fans with lights. The problem is that each room has a dual light switch but only one switch operates both functions of the ceiling fan/light. The last place I lived in in had the same switches but one operated the light and one operated the fan. Is there any way to accomplish this without rewiring?

How can I program my remote control for my Harbor Breeze ceiling fan?

November 11th, 2010

I own a Harbor Breeze ceiling fan, and it is controlled mainly by remote control. In order to turn the light or fan on, I need to use the remote; the wall switch only controls if there is power going to it or not.

Recently, I noticed the battery on my remote was dying (it has a little blinking indicator for low battery life). So, absent-mindendly of the consequences, I changed the battery. Now the remote won’t work at all. Even though the numbers and such show up the same as usual, the fan unit doesn’t respond.

Do I need to reprogram the remote after switching the battery? And how would I go about doing that?
The Control is a Harbor Breeze LCD Remote Control, if that helps.

I am trying to install a ceiling fan (the house is prewired). What is the red wire from the ceiling for?

November 8th, 2010

The ceiling has a black, white, red, and bare wire. The fan has two black, a white and a green. I understand white to white and bare to green. I just don’t know how I am supposed to connect the red and black wires. The installation instructions do not make any mention of a red wire.

Which direction would a ceiling fan go if it flew off ceiling?

October 31st, 2010

My husband and I are having a debate: If a ceiling fan is spinning at a high speed and somehow detached from the ceiling, where would it likely go? Straight down or to the side?
Thanks for helping us waste less time arguing and settle this once and for all!! :)
My thought is just that if it is moving really, really fast, it tends to shake back and forth as the blades are spinning. Wouldn’t that same energy and the propelling motion of the blades cause the fan to be thrown to one side, depending on how it detaches from the ceiling?

Why does a compact fluorescent light bulb not work with a ceiling fan?

October 28th, 2010

I have a ceiling fan with a light underneath it that takes a regular light bulb. But when I try to use a compact fluorescent bulb, it flickers. Can someone tell my why?
Yes, the fan is wobbly. Would that tend to interfere with the electrical contacts or wiring? How would I fix the wobbling?

How do I connect a new ceiling fan to an 'old' ceiling fixture?

October 26th, 2010

There are only black and white electrical wires in the old fixture. How do I connect these to the ‘new’ multicolored wired system in the ceiling fan? I have not found any helpful answers after extensive internet searching.

How can I get rid of lights on a ceiling fan (remove the lights and keep the fan)?

October 26th, 2010

We bought a house with ceiling fans. The fans are nice but the lights hanging down from the middle of the fans (below the blades) are horrible. I’d like to just remove the lights and put a plain cap in their place.

I can figure out how to remove them, but where can I get a cap? I can’t find the name of a manufacturer on the fans. I’ve looked at fan sites online to find parts, but I haven’t seen any kind of "cap" that I’m looking for. Asking at Home Depot wasn’t helpful either.

Does anyone know where I could get a "cap" like this?

What are some cool ideas for ceiling fan pulls?

October 24th, 2010

If you dont know what im talking about im talking about the little things at the end of the two chains that hang down from you ceiling fan. One chain is for the light and the other for the fan speed. My brother is the one who needs something but he doesn’t know what to put. What could he use, anything that you think would be good for this will work.
Thx for ur help.

How do I get my ceiling fan to stop?!?!?

October 23rd, 2010

I pulled out the chain from my ceiling fan while trying to turn it off. The complete chain came out and we can’t see any way to put it back in. Meanwhile the thing is spinning at the highest setting and it’s really COLD! The wall switch only operates the light on the fan, but not the fan itself. Is there any way to get in to where the chain was and turn this thing off? It’s a very high ceiling and so standing on a ladder is what’s required to even reach it. Thanks!

What is an alternative to a ceiling fan?

October 21st, 2010

My husband just built me a roof for my back porch, it’s a pretty low ceiling so it’s to short for a regular ceiling fan. I was thinking one of those enclosed ones that you can turn and point in different directions. They hang from a metal hook in the corner of a room. (Not a stand) Where can i get one?

Critique My Writing!!?!?!?! PLEASEE?

October 20th, 2010

Hello Yahoo-ers(; I was wondering if you could critique/rate my writing. I wrote this Mystery about a year ago and felt great about it at the time. Now as I look back at it, I see many corrections I can make. I want your opinions though. Be honest please. I want to get better, so please critique it until it can’t be critiqued any more!!(: Also, I’d like you to answer how old you think I am and if you think I might have any chance of attending Kenyon College of Iowa University for Creative Writing when I get older. Thanks a bunch!(:

John Hugo grabbed Christopher Piers’ shoulder, forcing him to stop in his steps as he began to approach center stage in Raven Theatre. “The boy looks rough,” he whispered, “I’d talk to him with caution if I were you. You never know how a single person might react to such an incident.” His eyes were filled with full and entire sincerity.

“Thanks Mr. Hugo, but I’ve dealt with plenty of accidents like this one before. Good detectives not only know how to solve crimes, but know how to act around the people caught within them,” replied Piers. John nodded, understanding entirely as a CSI himself and let go of his shoulder.

Christopher Piers began approaching a boy appearing to be around 22; however, the grief on his face made it hard to estimate his true age. He sat there on the dance floor, back against the bottom of the stage, curled up in a ball. His cheeks reflected the red flashes of police lights from all of the tears he had been shedding. Piers felt a sudden pang of sympathy. He wanted to help the boy, maybe give him a hug. But he knew he had a job to do.
“Mr. Emerson?” Piers questioned with the softest face he could have conjured up. Denver Emerson didn’t respond, he only nodded once with his head still in his hands. “I understand you are in a lot of pain right now. However, I need you to tell me exactly what happened here tonight. Can you do that for me?”

“I loved her,” Denver Emerson ignored the question, “She was everything to me. Now she’s gone.” Piers could tell just talking was tough for Denver.

“Mr. Emerson, I need you to start from the beginning. Focus. Tell me, what happened here tonight?” Piers repeated his question. Denver paused for a brief moment, most likely trying to collect enough energy to begin his story.

“It was our craziest show,” Denver began, face pale and eyes drooping, “The place was packed. We had the crowd going wild. Fans were bouncing off the walls. I’m the bassist you know… of our band. The guys were doing amazing, hitting every single note perfectly, and every beat exactly. We were at the tail end of our concert when… it came loose.”

“What came loose?”

He looked up at the cut off wire dangling from the ceiling where one of the four enormous speakers used to be. Christopher Piers followed his gaze. “And now… now Victoria, my Victoria… Now she’s gone.”
After the first guess at my age, I have decided to give it away. I am 13 years old. I wrote this when I was 12.

Thank you so much for everything you guys! I can’t wait to rewrite this now(:

How do I change the direction of my ceiling fan?

October 20th, 2010

We just moved into a home with a Nuvent ceiling fan and light. The ceiling fan only runs in the reverse direction meant for winter – no breeze for the summer. It has a remote but no reverse button and we can’t see a reverse button on the fan. Any ideas? Thank you.

How do I fix the chain on my ceiling fan?

October 19th, 2010

There’s 2 chains dangling from our ceiling fan. One for the light and one for the fan. The one for the fan just got jerked too hard and it’s still up and inside but it’s obvious it’s been pulled a couple of inches away from where it was and we also can not turn the ceiling fan on now.

How do we reconnect it where it was – goes?

How much would it cost to install a ceiling fan into a room?

October 17th, 2010

I just moved into a house and the room I’m sleeping in is too hot and I like to sleep in a colder climate. The ceiling is about 10 ft. high. I’ve never installed a ceiling fan before so I’m checking to see how much it would cost to get one installed for me. The only place I know that sells them is Lowe’s, do they install them for you if you pay an extra fee? If so, how much? Or what is the average a contractor who does that kind of job ask for?

Who will win the Emmy 4 Outstandin' Supporting Actor in a Drama Series?

October 10th, 2010

The nominees are…

Aaron Paul "Breaking Bad"
Martin Short "Damages"
Terry O’Quinn "Lost"
Michael Emerson "Lost"
John Slattery "Mad Men"
Andre Braugher "Men of a Certain Age"

Good thing Emerson already picked up his Emmy earlier. I find it peculiar that Short is recognized here. But I haven’t been too enthusiastic about his funny stuff as of recently; perhaps some of you "Damages" fans can chime in 2 c if he’s good enough 2 win or is better off doing that Ed Grimsley stuff. The 62nd Emmys take place August 29 on NBC.
